Monobloc driveway with granite setts and planting by RS Bespoke Gardens

Driveways built for daily use

A driveway carries the weight of a car every day, in every kind of weather, for decades. It’s also the first thing anyone sees of your home.

RS Bespoke Gardens designs and builds driveways that handle both. They’re dug out and drained properly, then finished to suit the house rather than a catalogue.

What goes into a driveway that lasts

A sunken or cracked driveway is nearly always a groundwork problem. You won’t see any of this once the driveway’s finished, but it’s what you’re paying for.

Driveway options

Monobloc (block paving)

The most popular choice in Scotland. Hard-wearing, repairable and available in a big range of colours and patterns.

Granite setts

Traditional and very durable. They work well as borders, aprons or a whole driveway on older properties.

Mixed designs

Monobloc with sett borders, banding or planting pockets to soften a large frontage.

The whole frontage

We can add low-voltage lighting, new kerbs, steps to the front door and planting, so the frontage is finished as one job.

Drainage and planning permission

In Scotland, a new or replaced front driveway doesn’t usually need planning permission, unless rainwater would run straight off it onto the road. We design for that, with drainage to a soakaway or planted area, or a permeable surface. It keeps you on the right side of the rules and stops puddling.

How a driveway project runs

  1. Free site visit: measuring, levels, drainage and access.
  2. Fixed written quote: materials, pattern and layout agreed up front.
  3. Excavation and groundwork: usually the noisiest part, and the most important.
  4. Laying, cutting and finishing: edges, kerbs and sanding.

Driveway questions

It depends mostly on size, the amount of excavation and the paving chosen. Your quote is fixed after a free site visit, so there are no surprises.

A few seeds can settle in the joints over time. Properly compacted kiln-dried sand keeps this to a minimum, and a sweep and top-up every year or two keeps it tidy.

Yes. We can extend it and match the existing paving, or deliberately contrast it. A wider driveway may need a dropped kerb, which is applied for through the council.

Usually not, provided rainwater drains within your property rather than onto the road. We design every driveway with that in mind.
