Garden Patios & Paving in Cumbernauld

Porcelain patio with pergola and tile inlay by RS Bespoke Gardens

Patios planned around how you'll use them

A patio is the part of the garden you’ll use most, so it has to be right: the right size, the right level and the right surface for Scottish weather.

RS Bespoke Gardens designs and lays patios for homes across Cumbernauld, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie and Falkirk. Every patio is planned around how you’ll actually use it, whether that’s morning coffee by the back door or a table for twelve.

Patios built to last in a wet climate

Most patio problems come from what’s underneath, not the slabs on top. Puddles, rocking slabs and green joints come from a poor sub-base and the wrong fall.

Choosing your paving

Porcelain

Dense, stain-resistant and very low maintenance. Ideal if you want a clean modern look that stays that way, and well suited to gardens that get a lot of use.

Natural stone

Sandstone, limestone and granite give a warmer, more traditional finish that weathers in over time.

Patterned and feature tiles

A tile runner or inlay through a plain porcelain patio adds character without overwhelming the space. We’ve used these alongside pergolas and seating areas.

Mixed surfaces

Setts, gravel and planting breaking up a large paved area. It looks softer and helps drainage.

Not sure which suits your home? We’ll talk it through at the site visit, with your house and your light in front of us.

More than a patio

The best patios are part of the whole garden. We can design yours alongside steps and low walls to deal with a slope (see Steps & Walls), built-in benches, fire pit areas and pergolas, garden lighting so the space works after dark, and planting beds and lawn edges that frame the paving.

How a patio project runs

  1. Free site visit. We measure up, check levels and drainage, and talk through how you want to use the space.
  2. Fixed written quote. Materials and layout agreed up front.
  3. Build. Excavation, sub-base, laying and pointing.
  4. Handover. We clean down the site and explain how to look after your new surface.

Patio questions

It depends on the size, the paving you choose and how much groundwork is needed. Every quote is fixed and itemised after a free site visit, so you know exactly what you’re paying before any work starts.

Porcelain is harder-wearing and easier to keep clean. Natural stone has a softer, more traditional look and is usually easier to repair. Both last decades when laid properly.

All outdoor paving in Scotland picks up some algae, especially in shade. Porcelain resists it best, and a good fall with properly filled joints makes a big difference.

Usually not for a back-garden patio at ground level. Raised platforms or work near a listed building can be different, and we’ll flag it at the site visit if it’s relevant.
